Loring Nicollet Alternative School

School Policy for Staff and Students

  1. LNAS is based on respect for all individuals, regardless of race, sex, class, sexual orientation, ethnic background, religious or political beliefs, age, ability, or looks. Verbal abuse (including swearing, taunting, derogatory and/or threatening language, even jokingly) will not be tolerated. Gossip will not be tolerated either. If you feel disrespected, assertively tell them to stop. If you are being disrespectful, you will be given a verbal warning. If the warning is not heeded, you will be suspended for the rest of that day. In order to return to school you may have to meet with the teachers and have your parent/guardian contact the school.

  2. Loring Nicollet Alternative School (LNAS) is a chemical-free learning environment. Don’t get to know students through drugs or use them as a common interest. Consequences of using/possessing drugs or alcohol within the vicinity of the agency at any time or during any school event include:
    1. First time: suspension for the day, a completed outpatient assessment, and you must have your parent/guardian contact the teachers before you come back.
    2. Second time: you will be permanently expelled.

  3. LNAS encourages non-violent solutions to problems. Physical aggression or roughhousing will not be tolerated. You could be suspended or expelled immediately.

  4. Each student is important at LNAS. Regular attendance is essential. You must call in by 9:00 a.m. if you are going to be absent or late. If you don’t call, bring a note from your parent/guardian. If you have serious attendance problems and have a legitimate reason for missing, TALK TO THE STAFF!

  5. LNAS encourages respect for people’s boundaries. Anything personal shared in classes (e.g. Women’s/Men’s, RYW) should be kept within that class. If you steal or cause damage to something at school (including through graffiti), you will have to pay for it, fix it, or both. Stay off private property in the neighborhood unless you’re invited. Be careful with your stuff!

  6. LNAS is based on cooperation. If you are disruptive, do not comply with assigned tasks, use verbal sabotage, etc. you will be asked to leave that class and you may need to have your parent/guardian contact us before you can return.

  7. LNAS is based on individuals taking responsibility for their own education. If you are not successful on your own, we may ask you to sign a contract about changing particular behaviors.
